Evidence of spin-wave demagnetization in Fe–Cr giant magnetoresistance multilayers

چکیده
The temperature dependence of the saturation magnetization of Xe ion-beam sputtered Fe–Cr multilayers has been measured between 5 and 300 K in the presence of a field greater than the saturation field sHsatd. With the application of Hsat, the zero-field antiferromagnetically coupled ferromagnetic Fe layers are forced to align ferromagnetically. We find that the thermal demagnetization of such magnetically composite structure follows the Bloch formula for spin waves with anharmonic term in the magnon dispersion relation, viz., MsTd=Ms0df1+AT3/2+BT5/2g. Comparisons are presented between the multilayers and bulk crystalline Fe. © 2005 American Institute of Physics. fDOI: 10.1063/1.1847720g

Giant Magnetoresistance and Spin Valves I Ming Mao, Chairman Magnetic scattering in Fe–Cr multilayers in the ferromagnetic state at low temperatures
We report here an interpretation of the electrical resistivity ~r! below 15 K of two Fe–Cr multilayers ~30 layers of 20 Å Fe/10 and 12 Å Cr! produced by Xe ion-beam sputter deposition. These multilayers have a negative giant magnetoresistance ~GMR! of ;21% at 4.2 K and Hsat 513 kOe. Very high-resolution resistance measurements ~better than 3 ppm! were made down to 2.3 K at every (100610) mK. Ex...
متن کاملTheory on the Temperature Dependence of Giant Magnetoresistance
The temperature dependence of the giant magnetoresistance (GMR) for currents parallel and perpendicular to the multilayer plane, is discussed by taking account of the random exchange potentials, phonon scatterings and spin fluctuations. The effect of spin fluctuations, which plays an important role at finite temperatures, is included by means of the static functional-integral method developed p...
متن کاملSpin-Dependent Interface Transmission and Reflection in Magnetic Multilayers
First-principles calculations of transmission and reflection from Ag/Fe, Au/Fe, Cu/Co, and Cu/Ni interfaces show very strong spin dependence that differs significantly from expectations based on free electron approximations. The results can be used to understand both the giant magnetoresistance and the oscillatory exchange coupling observed in magnetic multilayers of these materials. The spin d...
متن کاملGiant magnetoresistance of (001)Fe/(001)Cr magnetic superlattices.
We have studied the magnetoresistance of (001)Fe/(001)Cr superlattices prepared by molecularbeam epitaxy. A huge magnetoresistance is found in superlattices with thin Cr layers: For example, with rc, =9 A, at T =4.2 K, the resistivity is lowered by almost a factor of 2 in a magnetic field of 2 T. We ascribe this giant magnetoresistance to spin-dependent transmission of the conduction electrons ...
متن کاملCoexistence of glassy antiferromagnetism and giant magnetoresistance in Fe/Cr multilayer structures
Using temperature-dependent magnetoresistance and magnetization measurements on Fe/Cr multilayers that exhibit pronounced giant magnetoresistance (GMR), we have found evidence for the presence of a glassy antiferromagnetic phase. This phase reflects the influence of interlayer exchange coupling (IEC) at low temperature (To140 K) and is characterized by a field-independent glassy transition temp...
